Getting there and back

Getting There

by air:  Flights from Cape Town to George are a direct, one-hour journey. Flights from Johannesburg to George are a direct, two-hour journey.  George Airport is 30-minutes’ drive to Wilderness.

By road:  The drive from Cape Town to George is approximately 440km (273 miles) and takes approx 6-8 hours.

Evening meals and lunches

You can purchase evening meals either at the accommodation or nearby. When our adventure travel planners send you the schedule with your itinerary you could prearrange directly with the accommodation or during the trip.

For lunches we would suggest bringing some of your own favourite snack bars and then asking the accommodation for a packed lunch for the following day and also supplementing that at stops en-route.

Accommodation

Accommodation is generally at 4-star hotels.  Once booked in, your adventure travel planner will send you a list of your booked accommodation.  It is possible to adjust according to preference at this stage so please mention it if you wish to change.

Dates and prices

For available dates please click on the ‘book now’ option on the left hand side on desktops or at the bottom on mobiles.  You can reserve your space via this route.

After you book

After placing your booking with us, you will in the first instance receive an automated email from our system confirming receipt of your reservation.  If you don’t receive it, it is worth checking your spam/clutter folder.

In the process of placing your booking, you will generally set up an access password to our online gateway where you can review the details of the booking.

Your personal adventure travel planner will then be in touch with you to start to confirm the details. This contact will usually be taken up in the working day after receipt of your booking, but may, in busy times, take a little longer.  The adventure travel planner will then liaise with you regarding the details of the course. If you have any specific requirements, please do mention it at this stage.

At the end of your trip

Unfortunately, all good things come to an end at some point and when you arrive at your final destination, some people like to treat themselves to a night’s stay at the end.  And why not?  You’ve earned it.  You can arrange this as an optional extra with your adventure travel planner.

Itinerary

  • Day 1 – Arrival in Wilderness

Arrive at your accommodation for the evening and relax.

  • Day 2 – Wilderness to Plettenberg Bay

First thing in the morning, we will pick you up your hotel to start your trip!  In Wilderness you will have the opportunity to kayak along the winding Touws River through the Garden Route National Park.  At the end of your paddle there is a short walk-way along the Kingfisher trail leading to a gorgeous waterfall and pool.  Here you can have a refreshing swim or picnic before making your way back along the river.

At the end of the day, we will drop you off at your hotel, where you will spend the next three nights in Plettenberg Bay.

Activity: Kayaking Touws River and exploring the Garden Route National Park

    1.5-hour drive

  • Day 3 – Plettenberg Bay and Tsitsikamma National Park

From Plettenberg Bay you will head towards the Tsitsikamma National Park where Bloukrans bridge waits to be jumped off by thrill seeking adventurers such as yourself!  After an adrenaline fuelled experience, you will head to Knysna elephant park to meet and feed the majestic local animals who used to roam these forests not too long ago.

After a full day of exploring, it is time to head back to Plettenberg Bay for the night.

Activity: Bloukrans Bridge bungy jump & Knysna elephant park

    2-hour roundtrip scenic drive

  • Day 4 – Plettenberg Bay and Tsitsikamma National Park

One day is not enough to experience the breathtaking national park, it is time to dive a little deeper.  Today starts with a ziplining journey through the tall canopies of the lush forest.  After zipping about through the trees, you will be transported to the iconic Storms River Mouth where you can walk over the hanging bridge and appreciate the wild coastline.

Back to Plettenberg Bay at the end of the day for some and the freedom to explore local seaside restaurants.

Activity: Ziplining canopy tour & Storms River Mouth hike

    2.5-hour roundtrip scenic drive

  • Day 5 – Plettenberg Bay to Knysna

Time to head to Knysna; a gorgeous seaside town with picturesque beaches and lagoons in every direction.  There is no better way for you to marvel at the Knysna heads, or search for marine animals, than on a boat trip.

After exploring Knysna you will be dropped at George airport.

This is where your trip ends unless you have booked additional services with us.

    Activity: Boat – day trip

30-minute drive from Plettenberg Bay to Knysna
