Guided Adventures
The right people. The right support. An adventure you’ll remember.
From mountain challenges in the UK to cycling adventures and overseas expeditions, our guided trips combine great routes, experienced guides and carefully organised adventures.
Maximum Adventure has been organising adventures since 2002. Today, we work with more than 60 contracted guides and leaders, bringing a wealth of experience to the thousands of people who take on adventures with us every year.
Our guides are based across the UK and around the world, giving us access to local knowledge and experience in the places where we operate.
Most importantly, they’re there to help you get the most from your adventure – providing expertise, encouragement and support when you need it.
Meet Your Guides

Experience. Knowledge. Support.
Our guides and leaders are an important part of the Maximum Adventure experience.
With guides based across the UK and around the world, we can draw on local knowledge and many years of experience to help deliver our guided adventures.
Whether you’re tackling a mountain, taking on a long-distance walking challenge or cycling a major route, your guide is there to help you make the most of the adventure.
Qualified and experienced
The exact guiding arrangements vary depending on the adventure and the nature of the challenge.
Our UK walking trips, for example, may be led by qualified Mountain Leaders, while more technical adventures have their own specialist guiding requirements.
Whatever the adventure, we make sure the guiding arrangements are appropriate for the route, the conditions and the level of challenge involved.

The Right Level of Support
Guided when you need it. Supported when it matters.
Different adventures require different levels of support, and we tailor our guiding arrangements to the trip.
Our guided cycle challenges, for example, include the expertise of a guide alongside a support vehicle, while more challenging mountain adventures have specialist guiding arrangements appropriate to the terrain and objective.
Guiding ratios are also tailored to the adventure, with smaller groups and additional support where the nature of the challenge requires it.
The exact arrangements for your adventure will always be explained in the individual trip information, so you know what to expect before you set off.
More Than Just a Guide
A great guide does more than show you the way.
They bring local knowledge, experience and judgement to the adventure. They can help you understand the route, manage the challenges along the way, and provide encouragement when you need it.
And because we’re organising the adventure too, you can concentrate on the experience rather than worrying about the details.
From route planning and accommodation to luggage transfers, transport and local logistics, we’ll explain exactly what is included in your individual adventure.
Transport on your guided adventure

Support beyond the trail.
Transport arrangements vary depending on the adventure, so your individual trip page will always make clear what is included and what you need to arrange yourself.
Some of our guided challenges include a support vehicle as part of the adventure. On guided cycle challenges, for example, the support vehicle is accompanied by a driver who is knowledgeable about the route and cycle maintenance.
On other adventures, you may simply make your own way to the start and finish points.

Thinking about joining a guided adventure?
Here are some of the questions we hear most often.
How fit do I need to be?
It depends on the adventure you’re interested in.
Every trip has information about the level of fitness required and any previous experience needed. Maximum Adventure rates walking, cycling and trekking trips as Moderate, Fit, Challenging or Extreme.
For many adventures, we also provide a fitness plan devised by a fitness professional to help you prepare.
Do I need previous experience?
This depends on the adventure.
Some of our trips are suitable for people taking on a particular challenge for the first time, while others require previous experience or specific skills.
The individual adventure page will explain any experience or qualifications you need. If you’re unsure whether a particular trip is right for you, our team will be happy to talk it through with you.
How many guides will be with me?
This depends on the adventure.
We use guiding arrangements and ratios appropriate to the route, group and level of challenge. More demanding adventures may require additional guiding support or smaller groups.
The individual trip information will explain the arrangements for your particular adventure.
What happens if I’m struggling during the adventure?
Your guide or leader is there to support the group throughout the adventure.
The exact level of support depends on the trip, its difficulty and the guiding arrangements.
If you’re unsure whether a particular adventure is suitable for your fitness or experience level, speak to our team before booking.
Will I be with other people?
Most of our guided adventures are shared experiences, giving you the opportunity to take on the challenge alongside other like-minded adventurers.
The size and make-up of groups varies between trips, so check your individual adventure page for details.
