This event covers the whole length of Hadrian’s Wall in three days. You cycle the first part, walk the central and more mountainous part, and cycle the last part. The walking part covers some of the finest and best preserved sections of the Wall.

Our itineraries follow Hadrian’s Wall from West to East. The reason for this is that the prevailing winds, in the UK, during the months of April – October are generally from the West. This means that, in all likelihood, you will be walking with the wind on your backs. This is much nicer than walking into the wind. Should you however prefer to walk East to West then we can, of course, simply reverse the itinerary for you. Just let us know and we will arrange this for you.

Quick Facts

  • Three day itinerary: approximately 40 miles of cycling; 15 miles of walking; 45 miles of cycling. 100 miles total
  • This is a great way to complete the whole Hadrian’s Wall Challenge in a reasonably short time frame
  • Guide book and map provided
  • 24hr telephone support during your walk
  • Three nights’ twin room hotel accommodation
  • Transfer vehicle for luggage and bikes when not used
  • Walk in the footsteps of Roman soldiers and cycle visiting a series of towers, mile castles and forts

About & Details

This adventure covers the whole length of Hadrian’s Wall in three days. You cycle the first part, walk the central, more mountainous and craggy section, and cycle the last part. The route passes through some of Northern England’s most beautiful scenery and on the walk you will enjoy some of the finest and best preserved sections of the wall. The terrain varies between the peaceful Solway Firth, the cities of Carlisle and Newcastle, and the wild mountain scenery of the central section of the wall. The walking is along the wall from Greenhead to Brocolitia. The cycling is primarily along the Hadrian’s Wall cycle route, which combines low-traffic country roads with off-road sections. Throughout, the scenery is impressive. A great way to do the whole length of the wall in 3 days.

Evening meals and lunches

You can purchase evening meals either at the accommodation or nearby. When our event planners send you the schedule with itinerary you could prearrange directly with the accommodation or during the walk.

For lunches we would suggest bringing some of your own favourite snack bars and then asking the accommodation for a packed lunch for the following day and also supplementing that at stops en-route.

Accommodation

Accommodation is generally at B&B, guest houses and small hotels. Once booked in, your event planner will send you a list of your booked accommodation. It is possible to adjust according to preference at this stage so please mention it if you wish to change.

Need a guide?

If you would prefer to have a guide for your walk, even just for one day, then we are happy to help. We can provide a qualified leader (also first aid qualified) to lead your trek or on just one of the sections. Just ask us.
A guide can not only take the stress out of navigation, but you will also find them a great asset in terms of providing an insight into all things environment and nature.

At the end of your trip

Unfortunately, all good things come to an end at some point and when you arrive at Segedunum, you have one of several options. If you have not booked an additional night’s stay in Newcastle then we can transfer your luggage to a location of your choice.

Some people like to treat themselves to a night’s stay in Newcastle at the end. And why not? You’ve earned it. We suggest a night near the Quayside overlooking the river.  You can arrange this as an optional add on with your event planner.

After you book

After placing your booking with us, you will in the first instance receive an automated email from our system confirming receipt of your reservation. If you don’t receive it, it is worth checking your spam/clutter folder.

In the process of placing your booking, you will generally set up an access password to our online gateway where you can review the details of the booking.

Your personal event planner will then be in touch with you to start to confirm the details. This contact will usually be taken up in the working day after receipt of your booking, but may, in busy times, take a little longer. The event planner will then liaise with you regarding the details of the course. If you have any specific requirements, please do mention it at this stage.
