As you start your journey on The Yorkshire Wolds Way, after leaving Hessle your route quickly becomes scenic and interesting as you progress along the coast. You have a choice of routes at North Ferriby – a muddy low-tide beach walk or a high-tide road walk.  Taking in wooded areas as you reach the village of Welton before reaching cultivated countryside.  Villages lie just off your route during today’s walk, short detours will enable you to admire the coastal cottages and fine old houses.

  • Day 3 South Cave to Goodmanham/Market Weighton

Today’s route increases in height as the day unfolds, although the higher parts are simply rolling fields rather than hills.  Once beyond Arras you have a choice of routes, either follow the main route to Goodmanham, which has a pub and B&B, or take the alternative loop through Market Weighton, where there are several options for food and accommodation.

  • Day 5 Millington to Thixendale

Today’s section takes you well into the heart of the Yorkshire Wolds, the first part of the day has several ascents and descents across the dales while taking in the fantastic views.  The remainder of the day is made up of easy roads, tracks and paths before reaching Thixendale.

    12 miles (19.5km)

You continue today very much in the heart of the Yorkshire Wolds, your route takes you through the dales, in and out of woodlands, with the highlight of the day being the deserted famous medieval village of Wharram Percy.
