Edale Ridge & Mam Tor Circular
Starting in the picturesque village of Edale, this superb circular hike quickly leaves the valley behind as it climbs up alongside the dramatic Grindsbrook Clough, where cascading streams and small waterfalls add to the sense of adventure.
Reaching the open moorland, the route gains the high ground near Upper Tor, offering expansive views back down into Edale and across the surrounding Peak District landscape. From here, you’ll follow the sweeping ridges out towards Crookstone Out Moor, a wonderfully wild and exposed section giving a real sense of space and remoteness.
The route then descends gently towards the quieter Woodlands Valley, before climbing again to join the iconic Great Ridge. From here, the walk really comes into its own—ascending Lose Hill, before continuing along the undulating ridge via Hollins Cross and up to the ever-popular Mam Tor.
This section forms part of the famous Pennine Way, with spectacular panoramic views stretching across the Hope Valley and beyond. The final part of the walk descends via Barber Booth, returning to Edale along peaceful valley paths to complete a rewarding and varied circular route.
Please note: The exact route may vary depending on conditions on the day and the ability of the group. There is flexibility to shorten or extend the walk as required, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.
